When I played the 9 hole Par 3 course at 3 Lochs Holiday Park on 1 September 2015, my blog entry dated 5 September 2015 (just search the blog for "3 Lochs") included the following comments -
"Since our definition of a golf course is that there must be fixed tees and greens, I was hoping to find a clearly laid out course. Sadly, it was not to be. There were certainly 9 greens and flags and the fairways were also clearly identifiable, but I could only find 2 marked tees. To make it even more confusing, the flags did not appear to have been set in any particular order. On what I took to be the first hole, the flag was numbered 5 and the last hole was numbered 1. Other flags didn't have numbers at all and as for the greens, the grass was so long that some of the holes were completely overgrown, making putting impossible. Overall, this facility didn't meet our definition of a golf course, so 3 Lochs is now off our list of Scottish golf courses. I "played" it without losing a golf ball - no mean feat, given the length of the rough, but I didn't really score on any of the "holes" since they were all overgrown."
Fast forward to July 2026 and my friend Stuart Bendoris, who is currently trying to play every course, wrote on Facebook about his recent experience of playing the 3 Lochs course. His overall view was that the layout and condition of the course was fairly basic, but the key point for me was that it definitely had 9 fixed tees and greens. In other words, it now qualifies as a golf course, under the definition I've been using on my travels around Scotland. When I played it, I just dropped a ball where I thought that 7 of the holes should start, in the absence of properly marked tees, and since the fairways were identifiable, I'm hoping that I played the holes in the right order. Anyway, I've "played" 3 Lochs and it now counts towards my total. As Stuart said on Facebook the views around the course are pretty, but I doubt I'd go out of my way to play it again.
